Mushroom Patties have a bright future!

Origins of Mushroom patties

Mushroom patties are nothing new. They have been around since the introduction of veggie burgers in the early ‘80s. According to some culinary experts, a mushroom grower in the Philippines invented mushroom patties in a Tagayaday city where various mushroom dishes are still very popular. Ever since tourists sampled that first patty, mushroom patties spread around the world fast.

Most of us are familiar with burger patties that are made out of whole mushroom caps. Usually, a Portobello mushroom. We often see burgers like these on many restaurant menus but they are also a favorite choice of many vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians who prepare them in their kitchens at home. When prepared right, these mouthwatering mushroom meals can be addictive. Here is one great recipe of a mushroom burger by Lori Monte, a culinary artist and a blogger at www.thekitchenwhisperer.com I hope that you will enjoy this mushroom burger as much as we did. Growth in popularity

In the last 15 or so years, ground-up mushrooms have found their way into many veggie patties either as the main ingredient or just a secondary ingredient that is there for flavor and texture mainly in a powdered form. There are many quality mushroom patties on the market already; some of the popular ones are, Dr. Praeger’s Mushroom Risotto burgerPortabella Mushroom Patties by Gardenburger.

Although mixing mushrooms with meat in burger patties became a very popular practice in the recent past, we can expect more and more manufacturers of burger patties to keep introducing meatless and pure mushroom patties soon. Sprouts Farmer’s Market launched its own mushroom-based patties in 2020. The ever-growing trend of the plant-based movement and the meaty flavor and texture of the mushrooms makes these fungi perfect candidates for meat substitutes. Especially when we consider their low caloric value and richness in minerals and B vitamins.  Popular mushrooms often found in meatless patties are shiitake and portobello mushrooms.

One such patty that recently caught my attention is SHROOMEATS patty. Made purely from mushrooms, this meatless patty has a promising future.
