A Brief History
In-N-Out Burger restaurant chain originated in California in 1948. Today this burger chain became an internationally recognized name and a symbol of West Coast and So Cal living. It grew to 252 locations in California alone and 111 in Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Utah, Oregon, and Colorado. Tourists and celebrities from all over the world flock to an In-n-Out store once they visit Los Angeles. This popularity is largely due to the company’s tradition of making their famous burgers, fries, and shakes. Recipes and tastes have not changed since the first restaurant opened and the number of loyal fans is growing every day.
Initiative for change
With the growth of veganism and the proliferation of plant-based diets, In-n-out fans are demanding from the company to include an official Vegan, plant-based In-n-Out burger onto their popular menu. Fans of fast food even started a petition to turn that dream into a reality. Not that long ago a similar petition was started to make McDonald’s introduce plant-based options to its US restaurants.
In-n-Out Vegan Options
Though In-n-Out Burger does not have a plant-based patty option on its menu, it does offer a couple of meatless options. Their “Veggie Burger” consists of toasted buns, tomato, lettuce, onions (grilled or raw), and optional dressings, ketchup, mayo, or mustard. “Grilled Cheese” sandwich is also popular amongst those who avoid meat because it only contains cheese, onions, and lettuce sandwiched between two toasted buns. Fries are made from freshly cut potatoes right in the store and they are vegan and super tasty. Combining them with either meatless option will surely satisfy your meatless In-n-Out cravings.
In-N-Out vegan replicas?
One California restaurant already prides itself on being called a “Vegan version of In-n-Out” which is a very flattering compliment a California fast-food restaurant could get. Monty’s burger is a wonderful substitute for an original In-N-Out even though they are not in any way related to the famous CA chain. It is certainly wonderful to have a vegan burger joint option with a similar SoCal vibe In-N-Out Burger offers. In-N-Out Burger stores are not just places where you can get famous burgers, they are also popular hangouts for people of all ages who like to enjoy the CA vibe.
No plans for new additions to the menu as of now
While In-N-Out Burger doesn’t have plans to introduce a plant-based patty burger option yet, it doesn’t mean that that will not happen in the future. I’ve reached out to their headquarters in California via e-mail and got this reply: “We would also like to thank you for your suggestion to add Veggie or plant-based patty to our menu. Although we have no immediate plans to change our menu, we are always looking for ways to enhance the quality of food and service we provide.”
