Visit to Monty’s™ Good Burger aka “California’s vegan In-n-Out”

Whether you live in California or not, you’ve heard of In-n-Out burgers.™ They are a signature, California staple, endorsed by celebrities and on a list of things to see and taste for many tourists that visit LA or even Nevada.  When I moved to LA in the late ‘90s I even worked for the In-n-Out Burger™ and all I can say that those were the golden days. This was long before  I became a vegetarian and now that I don’t eat meat, I’ve been hunting local burger joints that offer that same taste experience.

I learned about Monty’s Good Burger™ a while ago and wanted to pay them a visit since December of last year but finally ventured out to their location on Sunset Blvd in Silverlake this June to put them to the test and the trip was definitely worth the effort.

Lunch at Monty’s

Finding the restaurant was not that hard at all. A line of people in front of a building, right around noon on Sunset Blvd. was a dead giveaway. Then the fun logo of a poodle holding a burger in its mouth was the sign that we have arrived to our destination. I ordered a classic, single patty burger with everything on it, fries, and a lemonade. Sadly, due to Covid-19 restrictions, dining room was still closed for patrons, but they were serving take out orders. A few benches on the sidewalk made it easy for us to enjoy our meals right there on a nice and sunny Saturday while people watching. Restaurant décor has that classic CA, nostalgic feel and it really fits into the scenery.

Taste Test, Is it really like In-n-Out Burger?

Given that I do like the taste of the Impossible patty and that I like my patties thin, this was a jackpot. A taste of caramelized onions, high-quality vegan cheese, and artisan buns, would fool even the biggest carnivore. When you add to that nicely cut, slim fries, you truly have the feeling that you are indulging in a well done In-n-out burger. The price is a bit higher than an In-n-out burger™, but if you are vegan or just looking to switch your meat patty with a plant-based one, Monty’s won’t disappoint you.

Takeaway

Now that I am sold on Monty’s™ taste, I do wish that they had more locations across Southern California which, I am sure, is in the works. While the taste and ingredients of meatless, plant-based patties is being perfected daily, expansion of “plant-based joints” like Monty’s is inevitable. Now you have one more reason to visit California. If you are a fan of Monty’s like we are, you will be able to download their official phone app and avoid waiting in line. Their App is available for iOS and Android platforms. For more info, you can visit their official website.
