Sprouts Farmers Market launches its own meatless patties.

Sprouts’ rich selection of plant-based offerings is growing

If you live in the US and shop at organic food markets, you are probably familiar with Arizona headquartered, Sprouts Farmers Market. This supermarket chain sells organically grown foods and is especially popular in California where it has over 120 locations. Many of us will be happy to learn that Sprouts Farmers Market has launched its version of meatless patties under their label “The Butcher Shop” (they are mushroom-based and quite tasty). This national chain already carries a rich assortment of veggie patties and plant-based meats.  In September of last year, Sprouts Market added Impossible Foods patties onto their store shelves and this expansion of plant-based offerings will most likely continue In the future.

Mushroom-based Sprouts patties are a winner

“Throughout the pandemic, demand and sales for organic foods, grass-fed meat and dairy, and supplements have all increased. We expect this trend to continue through next year,” said Jack Sinclair, CEO of Sprouts.

Since I am a big fan of Sprouts Farmers Market and love to sample their new products, I had to do a taste test of the new meatless patties. Especially when I found out that they are Portobello mushroom-based. It is a simple and nutritious formula that will keep you satiated. I like my patties thin and well done but this patty was a bit thick and rather slightly elliptically shaped which was perfectly fine. It fries well on a light flame and olive oil. I did not use any dressing aside from onions, tomatoes, and lettuce to get a good and unaltered taste of the patty. The texture of the patty is consistent and soft.

Taste test

I was pleased with the taste even though the patties had neither “beefy” nor “mushroomlike” flavor. Somehow my taste buds were reminded of a vegan frank or hotdog taste and really desired some mustard dressing. The burger will make you feel satiated and full. Sodium levels are tolerable and protein, iron, and fiber content are quite good too.

The packaging is labeled as “Burger Patties” and not just “Burgers” which often is a trend amongst manufacturers nowadays. I would definitely recommend them if you are looking for an inexpensive set of nutritious Portobello-based patties. You can pick up a set of Sprouts Farmers Market patties at one of their store locations or get it delivered to your door.
