Black Bean Burgers, these patties have started it all!

These patties are well known among vegans and meat-eaters. For many years, they were the only vegan burger option on restaurant menus. In fact, your local restaurant or diner probably still offers a burger with a house-made black bean patty on its menu.

To be honest, my first experience with a black bean burger was not that satisfying. About 16 years ago, I ordered a black bean burger at an upscale restaurant and not only did the patty taste bad and dry but it fell apart in my hand. It took me a while to forget the unsavory experience my first black bean patty left in my mouth.

Black bean patties are usually made from mashed black beans, onions, garlic, carrots, cornstarch, water, cumin, chili powder, and seasoning. These ingredients may slightly vary depending on dietary preferences and taste.

Just like the veggie patties and faux meat patties, their black bean counterparts have come a long way when it comes to taste, texture, and shape. You can now purchase premade black bean burger patties in a frozen section of your grocery store. The ones I usually buy Chipotle Black Bean Vegetable Burger by Nature’s Promise and chipotle black bean burger by Gardein. Other brands are great too but the two I have mentioned have great reviews and taste awesome.

Black bean patty also became a favorite burger patty for many home cooks. They are simply great for that Meatless Monday lunch or dinner option. There are many recipes for fabulous tasting black bean patties online and most of them show you exactly how to make a tasty black bean burger from scratch.
